Welcome to the Tuesday Trailblazer, my weekly newsletter delivering actionable advice from my personal experiences in 15+ years of people and business leadership.
What we’ll cover off:
What I believe my role as a leader to be
Why being a good teammate matters
7 ways your impact can mean more
For 25 years there have been 2 constants in my life.
Sport & people.
This has allowed me to witness firsthand the transformative power of a cohesive team and the pivotal role that being a good teammate plays in achieving collective success.
And like any team, we all have a role to play.
Last week I was reminded of this again when doing some coaching visits.
Last week I headed into stores and as always ensure I kick off my discussions with personal touch. I don’t talk shop within the first 5-10 minutes of a visit.
One of the greatest opportunities we have as leaders is to build relationships and connections with people and I don’t take that for granted one bit.

Anyway, about half hour in we got talking to one of the key opportunities for the stores and to be fair - it was one of very few opportunities as this team has been crushing it!
I asked the question “what challenges do your team face when it comes to delivering on said “store focus”?
It started a great conversation that within minutes led to this leadership team sharing some awesome insights as well as some of the challenges they were noticing.
Then comes the one question that ensures I play my role in helping my team play theirs…
How can I make this easier for you?
Within 1hr I’d been able to support this team as they recognised a challenge, built up a solution and shared with me how I can make it easy for them to achieve what the business and our customers want to see.
I left with the biggest smile on my face and like most days, was reminded why I love what I do and how fortunate I am to lead people.
I consider my role as a leader very simple.
To help my team, play theirs.

If you take out the team in teamwork,
it’s just work.
Now who wants that?

Success and IMPACT doesn’t come from “one single person” but a team.
The above story took the collaboration, the input of multiple team members across various roles.
One of the greatest strengths of a team lies in its diversity.
Each member brings unique skills, experiences, and perspectives to the table.
As a leader, recognising and empowering these diverse strengths can lead to impactful solutions and a more dynamic approach to problem-solving.
Encouraging collaboration and open communication ensures that every voice is heard, fostering a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect.

Many leaders focus only on themselves.
They think only about their own work and not needing the help of the team.
This makes people feel alone and less happy at work.
Leaders who don’t care about their team don’t build trust or good relationships.
It’s important to remember that being valuable means helping others, not just doing your own work.
When we collaborate with others, we learn new skills, gain different perspectives, and develop interpersonal abilities. This continuous learning and development not only benefit the individual but also enhance the overall strength and capability of the team.
Today I want to share with you 7 ways to be a better teammate.
