the more effective you are.

Pete Hall & Alisa Simoral

Life moves fast—too fast sometimes. And before you know it, another month has flown by without a moment to pause and think about where you’ve been and where you're headed.

That’s why our abiity to press pause, reflect and reset is so important.

It gives you the space to reflect, learn, and prioritise impact, ensuring that every month contributes to your growth and progress, rather than just passing by in a blur.

As leaders, our impact comes not from endless busy but from focused reflection and intentional action. When we stop to assess our achievements and challenges, we gain clarity on how to move forward with purpose.

If we’re not consistently reflecting, we’re missing opportunities to grow, both personally and professionally.

Many leaders skip reflection because they’re:

  • Too focused on the next goal: Always chasing the next milestone but missing the lessons in the journey.

  • Afraid of slowing down: There's a fear that taking time to reflect will somehow slow their momentum.

  • Don’t have a structure: Without a clear framework for reflection, it’s easy to put it off or avoid it altogether.

  • Too hard on themselves: Some leaders focus only on their mistakes, missing the importance of celebrating wins.

But reflection isn’t a break—it’s fuel.

It gives you the insights you need to lead with more impact and clarity.

The goal of the monthly review:

Block 60 minutes to slowly process the month.

It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day & lose sight of the bigger picture.

So grab a pen, crack open a notebook/laptop, and answer these 5 questions:

The 5-Question Monthly Review: Your Personal Growth Blueprint

Q1: What were my biggest wins & milestones?

Why: Reflecting on your wins sets a positive tone and reminds you of your progress.

How: Jot down personal and professional achievements, big or small, from the past month. Whether it’s a business success, a new habit, or a memorable moment—celebrate it.

Q2: What were my biggest realisations?

Why: Growth comes from learning, not just succeeding. These realisations aren’t failures—they’re lessons.

How: Think about areas where you faced challenges. What did you learn from them? This is your chance to turn setbacks into stepping stones.

Q3: What areas am I most satisfied? Least satisfied?

Why: This exercise helps you assess what’s working and what needs adjusting.

How: Divide your page into two columns: “Most Satisfied” and “Least Satisfied.” Use this to identify areas of strength and those needing improvement.

Q4: Based on these areas, what am I going to do more of? Less of?

Why: Knowing what drives your success and what drains your energy allows you to make intentional choices.

How: Make two lists: actions, habits, or beliefs to do more of, and those to stop doing. Keep these lists somewhere visible to guide your daily decisions.

Alternate: A “stop/start/continue” list also works 😉

Q5: What am I thinking about for the month ahead?

Why: This step bridges the gap between reflection and action, helping you set the stage for a productive and purposeful month.

How: Write down a few things you’re excited about, considering, or need to focus on in the upcoming month. This serves as a personal “letter to future you.”

You ready to take on the 4 day challenge and ignite your impact?

Trailblazer's 4-Day Challenge: Start Your Monthly Review

Day 1: Wins & Milestones
Action: Reflect on your biggest achievements from the past month. Write them down and take a moment to appreciate how far you’ve come.

Day 2: Realisations & Lessons Learned
Action: Think about challenges you faced and what they taught you. Document these realisations and how you can apply them moving forward.

Day 3: Satisfaction Check
Action: Create your “most satisfied” and “least satisfied” lists. This will help you identify the areas where you’re thriving and where you need to pivot.

Day 4: Action Plan for the Next Month
Action: Outline a plan for the next 30 days based on your reflection. What will you do more of? What will you do less of? How will you approach the month ahead?

The Monthly Review isn’t just a reflection exercise—it’s a way to ensure you’re living and leading with intention. By taking the time to look back on what’s working and where you can improve, you set yourself up for consistent growth and progress.

Let’s make sure we’re not just moving through the months but growing through them.

Take 60 minutes, dive into the reflection, and set yourself up for success. Keep blazing those trails!
