Like many of you - I love the work I do.

As an avid runner (pumped for the Sydney Marathon this week!), leading retail teams in Asics is something that allows me to bring my focus on my wellbeing together with my love of retail.

In addition, being able to take my family on the journey as well is something of real importance to me.

However, this isn’t just a “click your fingers” and it’s in your hand’s scenario, is it?

What we’ll cover off:

  • Why striving for work-life harmony is better than chasing balance.

  • How to mix work and life effectively to create a fulfilling experience.

  • Five key habits that will help you blend work and life seamlessly.

  • How to prioritise yourself and your passions to achieve true harmony.

The key is not to prioritise your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.

Stephen Covey

Last year, I surveyed 120 leaders across different industries and asked if they were happy with their work-life balance.

A whopping 81% said no, 14% were on the fence, and only 5% said yes.

These numbers show that the idea of "balance" just isn’t working.

When we try to balance work and life, one side often suffers, leaving us unfulfilled.

I learned this the hard way.

Striving for “balance” and often falling shoty.

Flogging myself beyond belief, caught in the chaos of busy for years before realising that I and those around me deserved so much more.

Today I want to share with you 5 key habits that helped me shift toward work-life harmony, where both aspects blend together to create a more satisfying and pleasing effect in our lives.

Many leaders struggle because they view work and life as opposing forces that must be balanced on a tightrope.

This mindset leads to stress, burnout, and a constant feeling of falling short.

The truth is life isn’t about perfectly balancing two separate worlds—it's about blending them together in a way that makes sense for you.

When you mix work and life like ingredients in a smoothie, you create something far more powerful and fulfilling than each part could be on its own.

More importantly you remove unnecessary pressure off yourself and find peace in a life that empowers you to live it.

It’s time to stop the balancing act and start blending.

Let’s throw work and life into the blender and create some harmony! Here are five key habits you can start today to bring work and life together seamlessly:

  1. Prioritise YOU:

    • What: Putting yourself first to be at your best.

    • Why: If you’re not at your best, both your work and life suffer.

    • How: Dedicate time each day to self-care, and don’t feel guilty about it.

  2. Don’t Take Work Calls from Home:

    • What: Setting boundaries between work and personal time.

    • Why: Being fully present with your loved ones is crucial for maintaining healthy relationships.

    • How: Limit work calls to business hours and spend your off-time fully engaged with family and friends.

  3. Get Some Real Sleep:

    • What: Prioritising proper rest to recharge.

    • Why: Bragging about running on three hours of sleep isn’t impressive—it’s unhealthy.

    • How: Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night. Remember, rest is essential, not something you need to earn.

  4. Blend, Blend, Blend:

    • What: Combining work activities with leisure, social, or fitness activities.

    • Why: Bringing work and life together as a team creates more engagement and fun.

    • How: Plan ahead and incorporate mental wellbeing activities into your work schedule. Look for ways to make meetings and collaboration days more interactive and enjoyable.

  5. Follow Your Passions:

    • What: Staying connected with what you love, even as life changes.

    • Why: Your passions make you who you are, and they shouldn’t be sidelined.

    • How: Keep pursuing your hobbies and interests, even as priorities shift. Your passions are a key part of your happiness and fulfilment.

Whatever happiness means to you, chase it.

You don’t want to look back years from now and realise you missed out on what truly mattered.

And if work is what makes you happiest, go all in—just make sure that’s what you really want.

Lead with impact, not busy.
